croucher put forward victoria cross (vc), highest decoration valour in british armed forces. had been awarded victoria cross have been first royal marine receive award since 1945 , second living british recipient in 21st century. george cross awarded same level of bravery expected of vc awarded when no enemy present. croucher 1 of 22 living recipients of medal of 406 have been awarded.
