in 1831, after opening of erie canal, group of twelve presbyterian families newark, new york pulled stakes , headed westward detroit. families settled in area around saline, , began holding church services. decade, these services held in private homes, schools, or other meeting places; finally, in 1842, presbyterian congregation constructed frame church on site present church located. church served congregation until 1898, when current church constructed. congregation hired detroit architects frederick h. spier , william c. rohns design church, , local contractor conrad schaffer , son build it. structure , interior furnishings cost total of $5,981.


new porches , steps constructed in 1954, using stones quarried same location original stones were. in mid-1970s, building extensively renovated both inside , out. sanctuary renovated , restored in 1998, , still used services.
