Dunkirk evacuation Mole (architecture)

the 2 concrete moles protecting outer harbour @ dunkirk played significant part in evacuation of british , french troops during world war ii in may/june 1940. harbour had been made unusable german bombing , clear troops not going taken directly off beaches fast enough. naval captain w. g. tennant had been placed ashore take charge of navy shore parties , organise evacuation. tennant had proved highly successful idea of using east mole take off troops. moles had never been designed dock ships, despite this, majority of troops rescued dunkirk taken off in way.
