numerous plays put on every year @ eton college; there 1 main theatre, called farrer (seating 400) , 2 studio theatres, called caccia studio , empty space (seating 90 , 80 respectively). there 8 or 9 house productions each year, around 3 or 4 independent plays (not confined solely 1 house, produced, directed , funded etonians) , 3 school plays, 1 boys in first 2 years, , 2 open years. school plays have such reputations booked every night. productions take place in varying locations around school, varying sports fields more historic buildings such upper school , college chapel.


in recent years, school has put on musical version of bacchae (october 2009) productions of funny thing happened on way forum (may 2010), cherry orchard (february 2011), joseph k (october 2011), cyrano de bergerac (may 2012), macbeth (october 2012), london assurance (may 2013), jerusalem (october 2013), midsummer night s dream (may 2014), antigone (october 2015), government inspector (may 2016) , romeo , juliet (may 2017). on top of this, every 3 years, school holds fringe-style school play festival, students , teachers write, direct , act in own plays, hosted on period of week. recent 1 held in october 2016, hosted wide variety of plays, double bill of 2 half hour plays, serialised radio drama, written boy in f block (the youngest year.) link radio drama can found here, @ https://etoncollegemud.com/


often girls surrounding schools, such st george s, ascot, st mary s school ascot, windsor girls school , heathfield st mary s school, cast in female roles. boys school responsible lighting, sound , stage management of productions, under guidance of several professional full-time theatre staff.


every year, eton employs director-in-residence , external professional director on one-year contract directs 1 house play , lower boy play (a school play open solely first two-year groups), teaching drama , theatre studies year groups.


the drama department headed scott handy (taking on hailz osbourne in 2015) , several other teachers; simon dormandy on staff until late 2012. school offers gcse drama a-level english theatre studies.
