Unification movement Moldova–Romania relations











a movement unification of romania , moldova began in both countries after romanian revolution , glasnost policy in soviet union, advocating peaceful integration of 2 states. individuals supporting movement called unioniști (unionists). in moldova, against movement called moldoveniști (moldovenists). unionist organizations in romanian , in moldovan civil society include noii golani (the new hooligans), deșteptarea (the awakening), or movement basarabia - pământ românesc ( bessarabia - romanian land ).


when ribbentrop-molotov pact signed, territories between prut , dniester belonged romania. since recognition of independence of republic of moldova many references made in romania necessity of eliminating consequences of ribbentrop-molotov pact. matter of fact, in june 1991, romania s parliament adopted declaration through above-mentioned pact declared null , void.


in aftermath of 2009 chișinău riots, director of moscow institute national strategy stanislav belkovsky reaffirmed support movement, declaring believes civil unrest prelude of political union between countries. belkovsky had authored plan unification between romania , moldova, notably excluding transnistria, either become independent republic or, if unviable on own, unite ukraine.


on 29 november 2013, georgia , moldova signed association agreements european union @ summit in vilnius dedicated eu s eastern partnership countries. in context, romanian president traian băsescu stated romania s next project of national importance reunification of 2 countries, reunification demanded on streets of bucharest, chișinău , bălți tens of thousands of people. more 3 quarters of romanian citizens agree eventual union moldova, according opinion poll conducted ires in november 2013. press release of moldovan pro-union organization action 2012 claimed poll conducted in moldova, excluding transnistria , gagauzia, before annexation of crimea russia in february 2014 , revealed 52% of moldovan citizens want union romania.
