before crash

ethan born on island in 1977 horace goodspeed , amy of dharma initiative. time 11 (1988), ethan had joined others , assisted ben in kidnapping baby alex danielle rousseau. ethan claims have lived in ontario, canada time part of alibi flight 815 survivors. ethan worked surgeon others. prior crash of oceanic flight 815, ethan encounters time traveling john locke day drug smugglers plane crash landed on island. ethan shoots him in leg , kills john before time jump moves john forward in time. ethan doesn t seem recall encounter in present. around 3 years before crash, travels island florida submarine recruit juliet burke, of richard alpert. ethan s wife dies in childbirth , baby not survive.


after crash

when oceanic flight 815 crashes on island on september 22, 2004, ethan sent superior ben linus pose fuselage survivor , make list of survivors. ethan keeps himself. takes blood samples determine if claire encountering pregnancy issues , goes on hunting trips john locke. when hugo hurley reyes asks information of ethan census, ethan lies, saying last name rom , ontario. knowing exposed before can complete list of survivors, ethan kidnaps charlie pace , pregnant claire littleton scientific research. ethan finds survivors leader, jack shephard, following him , beats him up. warns jack kill either claire or charlie if jack continues follow him. charlie later found hanging tree, , jack able resuscitate him.

having lost claire, ethan attempts telling charlie kill 1 survivor each night claire not returned him. scott jackson killed next morning. survivors assume killed ethan. next day, claire offers use herself bait lure ethan out of jungle. when ethan arrives take claire, locke, jack, kate, sayid, , sawyer run in , tackle him down. before able extract answers him, charlie shoots ethan 6 times, killing him.
