but 1950s, construction of niagara extension of new york state thruway, cut off access niagara river neighborhood residents once had existed @ riverside park. this, coupled large-scale exodus of residents , businesses suburbs taking place in many other parts of country, began long , steady period of decline in riverside. however, loss of population in riverside did not have near devastating impact demonstrated on many of east side neighborhoods.
