students accommodated full 3 or 4 years of study, either on main site or on college-owned property in north oxford , folly bridge area. new hertford graduate centre fronting isis built near folly bridge , opened in 2000.


hertford home college cat named simpkin, lives in college lodge , fourth of lineage, collectively simpkins, collective noun hertford college cats; original called simpkin , introduced former college principal geoffrey warnock, named after cat in beatrix potter novel tailor of gloucester. provided bursary alumni cover food , veterinary treatment.


academic achievement

hertford s exam results above average. in norrington table of results on period 2006–2012 has come 17th, 9th, 18th, 6th, 12th, 5th , 23rd.

hertford college boat club among leading oxford college boat clubs: both women s , men s first boats in first division of torpids , eights week, both m1 , w1 winning blades in 2015 edition of torpids. boats , club room in longbridges boathouse on isis. transition of magdalen hall hertford college in 1874, old blue-black of hall stopped racing in 1873, , new red-white of college took river in 1875. within 7 years of refoundation, college came head of river in annual college boat races, in 1881. on achieving victory, crew carried boat way college , burnt inside gates. college archives possess letter detailing club s celebrations sub-librarian of bodleian library, spent night on scaffolding surrounding work on old schools tower, directly opposite hertford gate, in case fire spread library. in 2005, boathouse gutted arson attack carried out animal liberation front, in protest against animal testing @ university. new boathouse rebuilt on same site.


the college endowed new well-equipped gym in 2011 , has playing fields in new marston, include pavilion facilities major team sports.


in august 2013 hertford college rugby club became first team uk tour mongolia in official partnership mongolian rugby football union. played matches against mongolia defense university , ulaan baatar warriors. both matches played in national stadium , broadcast live on mongolian national television.

hertford college has largest , active music society of oxford college, drawing in musicians around university, ensembles including hertford college orchestra, hertford college chapel choir, hertford college wind band, hertford college jazz band , hertford college bruckner orchestra.
