modelling

in 1955 @ age of 14 nena discovered vogue photographer norman parkinson when on tour in stockholm, sweden. in 1957 nena moved london, england, pursue career in high-fashion modelling. found immediate success , invited new york city eileen ford of ford modeling agency continue modelling career.


in snow storm of march 1958, @ age of 17, arrived in new york city on queen mary. in new york city continued modelling career top model, working @ vogue , harper s bazaar. photographed many fashion photographers, including gleb derujinsky.


acting

in 1967 played part in edie sedgwick film, ciao! manhattan. film took 4 years make , drastic changes made original story causing filmmakers remove many scenes shot in 1967, included nena s scenes. these deleted scenes can found on dvd version.


other activities

from 1987 1989 nena program director @ new york open center, , 1991 2002 managing director of tibet house us, oversaw construction of tibet house, educational programming, , philip glass initiated annual benefit concert @ carnegie hall, annual benefit auction @ christie s.


since 2001 nena has been managing director of menla mountain retreat, has overseen construction of state-of-the-art tibetan medicinal spa facility , business in catskill mountains in phoenicia, new york.
