n17 claremorris by-pass


the n17 passes through ballindine after crosses galway/mayo border. main street though ballindine wide reducing congestion in village. leaving ballindine route heads north towards claremorris. 5 km section of road realigned in 1983, bypassing dangerous stretch of road @ garryduff. busy section 10,000 vehicles daily. @ lissduff 16 km claremorris/knock bypass commences, largest project on n17 date. bypasses claremorris east, reducing heavy through traffic in town. 16 km bypass constructed in 2 phases, 6 km claremorris phase (phase 1) opened july 2001 , 10 km knock phase (phase 2) opened traffic december 2002. knock bypass passes village west heading in northeast direction bypassing kilkelly (bypassed 1980s), route continues towards charlestown passing ireland west airport knock. section of road of quality , has hard shoulder south of charlestown. route passes through charlestown , on sligo border village of bellaghy.
