the station opened on july 10, 1872 (june 5 in original japanese calendar in use) first intermediate station of first railway in japan when providing trial service on section between shinagawa station , sakuragichō station in yokohama before official inauguration in october 1872.


the nambu railway, later became nambu line, opened on march 9, 1927.


kawasaki city tram operated 6.7-kilometre long (4.2 mi) line shiden kawasaki terminal in front of station now-closed shiohama station 1944 1969.
