in long count portion of maya calendar, variation on strictly vigesimal numbering used. long count changes in third place value; not 20×20 = 400, otherwise expected, 18×20, 1 dot on 2 zeros signifies 360. supposed because 360 number of days in year. (some hypothesize approximation number of days in solar year, although maya had quite accurate calculation of 365.2422 days solar year @ least since classic era.) subsequent place values return base-twenty.
in fact, every known example of large numbers uses modified vigesimal system, third position representing multiples of 18×20. reasonable assume, not proven evidence, normal system in use pure base-20 system.
