career
early career

he became first rider 2 junior world titles credit, winning 85 cc fim world cup in 2000 , 125cc fim junior world cup in 2001. turned semi-professional midway through 2001 season, , qualified number of gp races @ 15 years of age. claimed first senior title in 2001 well, being crowned german 125cc champion. hard-charging , unmistakable racing style earned him moniker estonian express.

2002–2003: ktm

in 2002 first professional team vangani racing ktm teammates in team tyla rattray , ben townley. in 2003, vangani racing team metamorphosed bruforce racing, still on ktm motorcycles. tanel had broken through in top level of motocross world.

2004: suzuki

after few successful races in 125cc class in 2003, shifted 250 cc class motovision racing suzuki team in 2004. made huge impact during season, being remaining top level rider on two-stroke machine in class. reputation solidified number of furious on-track battles hotshots of class, such multiple world champion stefan everts.

2005–2008: kawasaki

at end of 2004 season signed two-year contract kawasaki factory team of legendary champion maker jan de groot. leok claimed first podium in fim motocross world championships mx1 class on 2 april 2006 @ zolder, belgium. contract renewed two-year term @ end of 2006 racing season. after having claimed numerous gp podiums in preceding year, tanel leok won first mx1 grand prix in ireland in 31, august 2008. claimed 9 podiums , 1449 points kawasaki team.

2009: yamaha

at end of 2008 season, red bull yamaha de carli announced move on mx1-gp in 2009 season , riders antonio cairoli , tanel leok. 2009 season started off estonian, winning italian mx1 motocross championships margin of 5 points on cairoli (158–153). won first gp of season in faenza, italy, , first holder of red plate marking him world championship leader. 2009 year steady season leok, 2 retirements: 1st race in latvia , 2nd race in brazil.

2010: honda

tanel signed honda on september 27, 2009 , in 2010 season in ls motors honda team, teammate davide guarneri. in first season ls motors honda team tanel chose legendary riding number 40, started riding in mx1 class number in 2004. in addition got first personal driving trainer – marnicq bervoets, important renewal leok. first competition honda on february 7, 2010 in mantua starcross. had starts, placed 3rd in second race , 1st in third race, overall place 6th, because retired first race. tanel leok finished 2nd guarneri in italian mx1 motocross championships. leok lost championship 17 points (152–135). on may 16, 2010 leok won second race , overall winner in grand prix of catalunya.

2011: tm

in september 2010 tanel signed tm racing factory team. first competition tm on february 19–20, 2011 in mantova starcross. leok finished second in 3 races , second overally behind david philippaerts. 2011 season poor season tanel, had several crashes , technical problems bike. best moment of season holeshot win in grand prix of czech republic , worst moment crash in grand prix of great britain.

2012: suzuki

in october 2011 tanel signed rockstar energy suzuki world mx1 team, suzuki factory team. teammate in 2012 season clement desalle. on february 5, 2012 tanel leok battled snow , icy conditions race second place overall against 1080 riders @ enduropale du touquet beach race in northern france, less 2 minutes behind overall winner jean-claude mousse. leok best race in 2012 season in benelux gp got podium in season.

2013: honda , tm

in september 2012 tanel signed british motocross team route77energy mvr-d honda. teammate in 2013 season jason dougan. on 2 june, tanel crashed heavily , broke collarbone, causing him 2 miss 2 races. @ end of month, route77 honda withdrew world motocross championship due financial problems. prior swedish grand prix, leok rejoined tm racing factory team.

2014: tm

in november 2013 tanel re-signed italian motocross team tm ricci racing. teammate in 2014 season davide guarneri. tm ricci racing rider tanel leok hasn’t had best of starts season. knee injury picked in off-season.

2015: kawasaki

the estonian express, tanel leok, has signed agreement british-based lpe kawasaki team next year. after long time in grand prix s, leok focus himself on british mx1 championship , mx nationals in great britain. tanel had season racing british championship , finished second in championship under lpe kawasaki.

2016-2018: husqvarna

tanel leok has once again inked deal join mvr-d team third time in career. team kept in terms , tanel racing british championship them in 2016 – team have decided run husqvarna’s in 2016 switching honda machine.

in september 2016 tanel signed 8biano husqvarna racing team. teammate in 2017 season rui goncalves.

leok contesting 2018 season privateer on husqvarna. leok contest european rounds of series hopes contest twenty rounds. leok had few other options next season, decided go privateer, can spend more time family in estonia.
