service history

upon arrival @ pearl harbor on 5 december 1943, cargo ship assigned service squadron 8. during next 11 months, operated mobile supply source army. duties consisted of loading cargo , dispensing troops needed. among ports operated funafuti, ellice islands; makin , tarawa, gilbert islands; kwajalein , eniwetok, marshall islands; , peleliu , angaur, palau islands.


under attack japanese aircraft

allioth sailed peleliu on 14 november 1944, bound pearl harbor. on afternoon of 20th, 2 japanese airplanes attacked her, dropping several bombs scoring no hits.


later evening, 1 aircraft returned , dropped bomb exploded near ship. ten crewmen wounded, , ship suffered minor structural damage shrapnel. continued journey , arrived safely in hawaiian waters on 11 december 1944.


conversion aviation supply issue ship

two days later, ship resumed voyage toward west coast of united states, , entered shipyard @ alameda, california, on 24 december, overhaul , conversion aviation supply issue ship. alterations completed in march 1945, , allioth received new designation ix-204.


servicing aircraft @ ulithi

on 10 march, vessel got underway pearl harbor. after taking on more cargo there, resumed westward voyage, dropped anchor @ ulithi on 8 april, , began supplying various units airplane parts. on 3 may, designation changed avs-4.


supporting aircraft in philippines

when fleet moved ulithi, allioth headed philippine islands, arriving @ leyte gulf on 27 may. in june, ship sailed seeadler harbor, manus island, load more spare parts. returned leyte on 29 june, , resumed supply duties.


supporting aircraft in ryukyu islands

allioth moved okinawa in mid-september 1945, , remained there next year, supporting various airplane squadrons operating in ryukyu islands. on 18 january 1946, ship got underway return united states. allioth arrived @ alameda, california, on 16 february, , began discharging cargo. crew began stripping ship of excess equipment in preparation deactivation.
