al dhahrani s political career began when ran , elected member of bahrain s first national assembly in 1973. @ age 31, ran in 20th constituency, @ time encompassing riffa, jaww, askar , zallaq. served mp until 1975, when emir of bahrain isa bin salman al khalifa dissolved parliament.


al dhahrani later appointed shura council in 1992 , served there until 2002. 1 of architects drew national action charter of bahrain in 2001, led end of political unrest plagued country in 1990s.


2002 parliamentary elections

al dhahrani served in shura council until 2002, when royal decree dissolved council. al dhahrani later planned run mp in newly formed lower house of parliament. al dhahrani ran candidate in ninth district of central governorate , elected parliament, having secured landslide victory, after winning 90% of vote. within council, elected speaker of parliament.


2006 parliamentary elections

al dhahrani re-elected in 2006 parliamentary elections, retaining constituency. re-elected speaker. al dhahrani retained post after islamist party al wefaq s leader ali salman indicated wanted secure post.


2010 parliamentary elections

for third time, al dhahrani re-elected in 2010 parliamentary elections in same constituency , re-elected speaker third time.
