the city comes alive every september celebrating sandurot festival, means “fellowship , reaching out” commemoration of dumaguete’s rich history dating pre-hispanic period when people of different foreign cultures converged , created varied community dumaguete city today. through course of history , present time, people of dumaguete have been known welcome strangers different shores , countries, , live them in complete peace , understanding. celebration started paghimamat, re-enactment of how people different cultures , races came shores of dumaguete, bringing gifts of rich cultures. pasigarbo followed, gracing city streets dancing drumbeats , other instruments participated different barangays , schools in dumaguete. streetdancing ended @ quezon park after participants prepared grand pasundayag, display of dances portraying different stories of dumaguete tradition.


meanwhile, buglasan festival known festival of festivals celebrated annually in province of negros oriental every october since 2002. festival ten-day event held in city of dumaguete, movable provincial fiesta, participated in province s 6 cities , 19 municipalities. though province-wide event (sponsored provincial government), activities centered in province s capital, dumaguete city. majority of activities held in provincial capitol , ninoy aquino s freedom park booths , local products either on display or sale, spread other venues such sidlakan negros village @ brgy. piapi , city s rizal boulevard. showdowns , streetdancing activities happen every 3rd friday of month of october.
