two major battles of civil war waged around robinson house. during first battle of bull run troops both sides occupied area. before fighting began gentleman jim took family neighbor s home hoped safe. after securing house jim attempted reunite family, caught in crossfire of battle , had take shelter under bridge on young s branch of bull run river until hostilities ceased. first battle left thousands of bodies littering fields throughout manassas. days after fighting over, robinsons buried many in unmarked graves. 20th century family members reported still digging bones of of these soldiers.


the first battle on in matter of few days. many thought civil war decided in one, winner take battle. not case. confederate troops won first battle of manassas, federal troops retreating washington, d.c., civil war continued.


second battle of bull run

the second battle of bull run lasted week , resulted in confederate victory. again, federal troops retreated washington , confederates did not pursue. casualties on both sides higher following second battle. pope , mcclellan strategically out maneuvered lee , jackson, despite fact had more troops.


again battle raged around robinson house. following destruction of henry house during first battle of bull run, robinson house 1 of strategically located buildings on battlefield. because of used union hospital , planning station. in sworn testimony before southern claims commission, gentleman jim described how following battle troops raided farm in search of food , supplies, causing more $2,000 in damages.
