the holotype fossil of zuolong, ivpp v15912, partial skeleton skull, discovered in 2001 in china, in upper part of shishugou formation of xinjiang. subadult animal measured approximately 3.1 metres (10 ft) in length , weighed approximately 35 kilograms (77 lb). zuolong named jonah n. choiniere, james m. clark, catherine a. forster , xu xing in 2010, , type species zuolong salleei. generic name honours general zuo zongtang, secured xinjiang china in nineteenth century. specific name honours hilmar sallee, bequest helped finance research. specific age holotype specimen 161.2 155.2 million years ago. holotype considered thomas r. holtz jr. juvenile theropod.
