the apec meeting has been criticised having severe security arrangements, resulted in closure of roads without sufficient warning leaders motorcades travelled around city. sydneysiders feared similar disruptions experienced during visit vice president dick cheney caused massive transport disruptions, including closure of sydney harbour bridge.


civil liberties , political groups concerned changes nsw law enacted apec meeting, giving nsw police force new powers, including suspension of normal function of habeas corpus, freedom of movement, excluded persons blacklist , other civil liberties. police , security forces had erected security perimeter around of inner city sydney. point of criticism cost of security event official budget figures @ a$169 million. new south wales police minister david campbell justified strong security presence , curtailment of civil liberties on fear of violent protest mutiny collective, , other protest groups.
