Biography Héctor Vigliecca

graduated universidad da la republica – udelar (1968), under mentorship of antonio cravotto in montevideo, participated, while still @ university, in study group called núcleo sol (center of sun), ideologically against concepts of athen’s letter , believed in lessons of team x, in other words, recovery of streets, continuous structure well-balanced densities , mixed uses. núcleo sol invested in projects related surroundings socially engaged. after graduation, spent 3 years in europe, between england, germany, spain , italy, earned post-graduation degree in urbanism @ università degli studi di roma.

once returned montevideo in 70’s, member of ideal-office estúdio 18, later on called estúdio reconquista (reconquer studio). studio enabled several multiple punctual associations, characterized permanent critic sense , constant exchange of ideas, taking place in fraternal atmosphere. bulevar artigas complex, residential complex uruguayan cooperative center (ccu) designed during phase héctor vigliecca, arturo vilaamil, ramiro bascans , thomas sprechmann. project part of exhibition “latin america in construction: architecture 1955-1980” (29 march till 19 july 2015)at moma, in new york, , belongs permanent collection of museum.

in 1975, hector moved brazil. in são paulo, worked architect joaquim guedes (participating in novotel project in morumbi) , head of nacional architecture consortium of contracting engineers (cnec) – golden ages of brazilian engineering firms – developed large scale projects such construction of new cities flooded damns. right after, inaugurated office padovano & vigliecca architects, stayed active 7 years , in 1996, founded vigliecca , associados – still active.

in parallel professional career, has been active in academic realm since 70’s. professor @ udelar architecture school in montevideo , @ mackenzie , unip universities in são paulo (from 1992 – 2012). still acts special guest professor , lecturer.
