luti-kriss , debut album (1997–2004)

evolving luti-kriss, original norma jean line-up consisted of final luti-kriss lineup, new bass player. drummer daniel davison, explained band got name actress marilyn monroe, real name norma jeane baker. not until after decided upon name found out norma means pattern , , jean means god s grace , mercy , combined saying patterns of grace , mercy . in 2002 band released bless martyr , kiss child on solid state records. original vocalist josh scogin left band shortly after release of bless martyr , kiss child, stating felt led do. scogin has been known join in norma jean during live performances sing memphis laid waste since departure. original bassist joshua doolittle left band around same time scogin. doolittle replaced jake schultz. scogin left band , later went on start chariot; replaced brad norris year , half.

early releases (2005–2009)

brad norris later replaced cory brandan putman, formerly of bands eso-charis, living sacrifice , uses fire. in march 2005 released second album, titled o god, aftermath. cory brandan s first album performance norma jean. artwork band s second album, o god, aftermath nominated best recording package @ grammy awards of 2006. artwork designed asterisk studios in seattle, washington.

redeemer, third album, recorded producer ross robinson. on september 21, 2007, original drummer daniel davison announced leaving band after current tour ended, via band s official website. last show on november 7, 2007 @ irving plaza in new york, ny.

on december 17, 2007, norma jean announced start writing new album, anti mother, in january, record in april, , playing entire 2008 warped tour. writing officially announced on january 24. on february 13, norma jean announced in myspace bulletin 6 songs deep. wrote song page hamilton of helmet, , collaborated deftones frontman chino moreno. band described 2 songs wrote moreno diverse , anti-traditional. in mid february, announced replacement drummer chris raines, drummer band spitfire.

on january 3, 2009, norma jean announced on official website writing songs next album. band s upcoming fifth studio album said return [their] roots.

on april 5, 2009, norma jean announced on website had dropped off current tour due myriad of reasons.

signing razor & tie (2009–2015)

on november 3, 2009, norma jean announced parting ways longtime label solid state , signing deal independent label razor & tie plans release album in summer of 2010.

norma jean announced title 1 of new songs kill more presidents , have encouraged fans film live performance of song. video released in march.

norma jean released jeremy griffith produced album, meridional, on july 13, 2010.

in interview exclaim! magazine published day of meridional album release, drummer chris raines spoke of how sound of meridional came , influenced it. last few records have been doing different things; 1 truthfully mixed lot of records wanted time. think took liked past records , added new touch wanted put on it, heavier , darker theme.

drummer chris raines replaced matt marquez in late 2010 no formal announcement made exchange or if raines ever return. in 2016, raines addressed leaving band in interview trav turner (formerly of aletheian, unteachers, solamors) family issues. on november 23, 2010, norma jean s former record label solid state records released retrospective box set collection titled birds , microscopes , bottles of elixirs , raw steak , bunch of songs. 3 cd compilation contains band s first 3 studio albums (bless martyr , kiss child, redeemer , o god, aftermath). in january 2011, founding guitarist scottie henry decided take temporary break norma jean. later replaced jeff hickey, formerly of handshake murders, 2011 tour dates.

on october 30, 2012, band announced going studio december 2012 january 2013, joshua barber chosen producer. first album band feature new members jeff hickey on guitar, john finnegan on bass, , clayton holyoak on drums. wrongdoers released in on august 6, 2013 razor & tie, uk/eu follow on september 9.

in may 2015, revealed work has begun seventh full-length album.

norma jean in jacksonville, florida on september 22, 2015 o god, aftermath 10th anniversary.

on july 9, 2015, norma jean announced 10th anniversary of o god, aftermath north american tour. perform album in entirety. band later announced sleepwave, 68, , ongoing concept join them.

on september 15, 2015, announced re-signed solid state records, release next album in 2016.

in june 2016, band announced had released first single, 1,000,000 watts , off new album, polar similar. released synthetic sun later month. on august 11, 2016, norma jean released third single off of polar similar, titled forever hurtling towards andromeda , features sean ingram of coalesce. before release of album, putman did interview hm magazine, in mentioned newest member, rhythm guitarist phillip farris, replaced chris day, last remaining original member, though no statement made of departure.
