in common many oxford colleges, jesus provides sporting facilities students, including playing fields @ site in east oxford off cowley road known bartlemas (for proximity st bartholomew s chapel). football, rugby, netball, field hockey, cricket, , tennis can played there. squash courts @ separate city-centre site on st cross road. college provides students membership of university s gym , swimming pool on iffley road.


jesus college boat club (commonly abbreviated jcbc) rowing club members of college. club formed in 1835, rowing @ college predates foundation of club: boat college involved in earliest recorded races between college crews @ oxford in 1815, when competed against crew brasenose college. these may have been 2 colleges had boats racing @ time, , brasenose boat victorious. neither men s nor women s 1st viiis have been head of river during eights week, main college races, women s 1st viii head of river in spring races, torpids, between 1980 , 1983. jesus boats have had other successful seasons: 1896 jesus college boat had reputation of being 1 of faster boats in university, , women s 1st viii of 1993 won blades in first divisions of both torpids , eights week, achievement led crew being described in jesus college record vying not college team of decade, perhaps team of last 3 decades , in sport.


a number of college members have rowed university against cambridge university in boat race , women s boat race. barney williams, canadian rower studied @ college, won silver medal in rowing @ 2004 summer olympics, , participated in boat race in 2005 , 2006. other students rowed while @ college have achieved success in other fields, including john sankey, became lord chancellor, alwyn williams, became bishop of durham, , maurice jones, became principal of st david s college, lampeter. college rower, james page, appointed secretary of amateur rowing association , coached both oxford , cambridge university boat clubs.
