horse halters confused bridle.the primary difference between halter , bridle halter used handler on ground lead or tie animal, bridle used person riding or driving animal has been trained in use. halter safer bridle tying, bit of bridle may injure horse s mouth if horse sets while tied bridle, , in addition, many bridles made of lighter materials , break. on other hand, bridle offers more precise control.


one common halter design made of either flat nylon webbing or flat leather, has noseband passes around muzzle 1 ring under jaw, used attach lead rope, , 2 rings on either side of head. noseband adjusted lie halfway between end of cheekbones , corners of mouth, crossing on strong, bony part of face. noseband connects cheekpiece on either side go next cheekbone meet ring on either side placed above level of eye. these rings meet throatlatch , crownpiece. crownpiece long strap on right-hand side of halter goes behind ears, on poll , buckled shorter strap coming left. throatlatch goes under throat, , has snap or clip allows halter removed in manner similar bridle. many halters have short strap connecting noseband , throatlatch.


the halter design made of rope has same basic sections, joined knots instead of sewn rings. designs have no metal parts, other than, in cases, metal ring under jaw lead rope snaps, or, occasionally, recessed hook attachment crownpiece can connected. however, in many cases, loop formed in left side of crownpiece , right side of crownpiece brought on horse s head, through loop , tied sheet bend.
