Second station Yokohama Station



the second station, built in 1915, behind elevated freight line


on august 15, 1915, second yokohama station opened close present day takashimachō station allow tōkaidō main line trains call @ yokohama station. original yokohama station renamed sakuragichō station. jr east uses date opening date of current yokohama station. terminal of keihin line (present-day keihin-tōhoku line) had been in takashimachō since 1914 , merged new station. government-run electric line later year extended sakuragichō.


on 1 september 1923, station destroyed fire in 1923 great kantō earthquake. 6 days later, station reopened temporary building. city of yokohama , ministry of railways agreed in february 1924 station relocated.


on may 18, 1928, tokyo yokohama railway (now tokyu toyoko line) extended former terminal of kanagawa station connected station. extension line passed through construction site of new yokohama station of government railways.
