truelove s career record producer began truelove bootlegs fused cappella vocals current instrumental dance tracks. successful of these, in collaboration dj eren, combined candi staton s vocal got love jamie principle s love (frequently, incorrectly, credited frankie knuckles). after distributing bootleg himself john secured permission owners of candi staton s vocal performance legitimise release. made various new mixes, including re-recording of jamie principle element, using artist name of source. seeking record company release master, meeting james horrocks, formerly founder , director of rhythm king records, led deal newly formed react music. got love entered uk singles chart @ number 30 in february 1991, , reached number 4 after 5 weeks, earning silver disk (200,000 sales) in process.

got love (now voyager mix), released in february 1997 , reached number 3 in uk singles chart. voyager mix slower 1991 version , used breakbeats, orchestral strings, piano , wall of sound mix approach. voyager mix used closing credits of final episode of hbo series sex , city.


got love re-released positiva / emi in 2006, reaching number 7 in uk singles chart. radio version of release slower re-arranged version of voyager mix, , included live strings scored david cullen , performed london session orchestra, backing vocals beverley skeete.
