prince edward appointed knight of order of st. patrick on 5 february 1783 , knight of order of garter on 2 may 1786. george iii appointed him member of privy council on 5 september 1799. elder brother, prince regent (later king george iv), appointed duke of kent knight grand cross of order of bath in military division on 2 january 1815 , knight grand cross of royal guelphic order (military division) on 12 august 1815.


arms

as son of sovereign, duke of kent had use of arms of kingdom 1801 death, differenced label argent of 3 points, centre point bearing cross gules, outer points each bearing fleur-de-lys azure.


the duke of kent , strathearn last grand master of ancients grand lodge of england before union of body premier (moderns) grand lodge of england form united grand lodge of england in december 1813. brother duke of sussex became first grand master of latter institution.
