the twyford down protest protest against m3 motorway extension destroyed rich ecological sites, 1 of few habitats of chalkhill blue butterfly , 6 species of rare orchid, , ancient monuments there (sssi , scheduled ancient monument).


following yellow wednesday , when hordes of police , security guards invaded camp bulldoze area, dongas tribe left twyford down bramdean common. earth first!, had been heavily involved in setting , support of camp , actions, continued protests , restarted camp in plague pits valley.


they constituted twenty people. of tribe maintained involvement in various subsequent road protests (solsbury hill, north wales, newbury bypass), gradually morphed semi-nomadic tribe , traveling south west of england on foot, squatting various hill-forts , putting on seasonal gatherings in attempt reawaken sense of connectedness land. last of nomadic dongas travelling in cornwall until end of 1999, after moved france continue nomadic lifestyle.
