in 1956, state of kerala formed on linguistic basis, merging travancore, cochin , malabar regions. first general election in kerala state held in february–march 1957. first kerala legislative assembly formed on 5 april 1957. assembly had 127 members including nominated member.


subsequently, after formation of malappuram , kasargod districts, number of seats went 140. current delimitation committee of 2010 reaffirmed total number of seats @ 140.
