a parallax barrier device placed in front of image source, such liquid crystal display, allow show stereoscopic image or multiscopic image without need viewer wear 3d glasses. principle of parallax barrier independently invented auguste berthier, published first produced no practical results, , frederic e. ives, made , exhibited first known functional autostereoscopic image in 1901. 2 years later, ives began selling specimen images novelties, first known commercial use.


in 2000s, sharp developed electronic flat-panel application of old technology commercialization, briefly selling 2 laptops world s 3d lcd screens. these displays no longer available sharp still being manufactured , further developed other companies. similarly, hitachi has released first 3d mobile phone japanese market under distribution kddi. in 2009, fujifilm released finepix real 3d w1 digital camera, features built-in autostereoscopic lcd measuring 2.8 in (71 mm) diagonal. nintendo 3ds video game console family uses parallax barrier 3d imagery; on newer revision, new nintendo 3ds, combined eye tracking system.
