this single-span metal bridge carried sheffield district railway on river don. opened in 1900, integrated lner in 1923 and, in british railways days, connected tinsley marshalling yard midland main line @ brightside junction. railway lines lifted in 1999, bridge still intact in 2013.

this bridge carries sheffield rotherham freight-only railway line. railway part of south yorkshire railway, later became part of great central railway.


m1 tinsley viaduct

tinsley viaduct carries m1 london leeds motorway , a631 road on river don. two-tier viaduct on 0.6 miles (1 km) long , opened in 1968, @ cost of £6 million. strengthened in 1983 , again in 2006. 2006 refurbishment involved addition of 2,500 tonnes of steel , 3,500 tonnes of reinforced concrete, took 3 years complete , cost £81 million.

this bridge carries trans-pennine trail on final non-navigable section of river don. sheffield canal joins don downstream of footbridge. century ago have cost half penny use ferry crossing tinsley waterway. 70 years ago, ferry – , charge – scrapped building of bridge. on 15 october 2001, current bridge opened replace older unsafe bridge. current bridge still named halfpenny bridge, cost half million pounds. bridge of steel bowstring construction, 49-yard (45 m) span. sheffield halfpenny bridge not confused halfpenny bridge near lechlade in gloucestershire, marks start of navigable river thames.
