car 122 built standard american design j. g. brill company of philadelphia in 1909 export porto, portugal. rosie similar streetcars once operated in dallas. 122 retired service on porto streetcar system in 1978, , brought u.s. in 1980s gales creek enterprises (gce), of oregon, purchased portland businessmen bill , sam naito possible use on then-proposed heritage streetcar line in portland. gce refurbished @ oregon electric railway museum use, on loan, in first san francisco historic trolley festival, in summer 1983, , car 122 operated intermittently in service on san francisco s market street in year; painted yellow-and-cream, colors of sponsor in trolley festival, eastman kodak. in fall 1984, no. 122 sold mata, , arrived in dallas around beginning of 1985. having been refurbished use in san francisco, 122 needed minor work bring service on mata s opening day. however, in late 1990s car 122 received more extensive restoration. shortly afterward, 122 developed motor problems kept in barn. these problems have been solved , 122 oldest streetcar in daily service in north america.

186 built st. louis car co. dallas consolidated electric street railway in 1913. car served 43 years in dallas before being retired in 1956, when streetcar system abandoned. 186 stripped of running gear , electrical wiring , sold private individual used hay barn in far north dallas. ed landrum, 1 of mata s founders, acquired car in 1979 , cosmetically restored it. green dragon displayed in texas sports hall of fame in grand prairie, texas. when museum closed, landrum removed 186 , donated mata, restored green dragon running order in 1989.

369 built in 1925 james moore, ltd. melbourne & metropolitan tramways board in melbourne, australia. w2-class car in continuous service in melbourne 6 decades before being purchased mata in 1986. matilda arrived in portland, oregon, ship , trucked dallas. acquired in running order, matilda required cosmetic modifications give more north american appearance. in 2008, car equipped air-conditioning (eight roof-mounted units, powered inverter hidden under seat).
636 - petunia

car 636 part of order 25 streetcars dallas railway co. j. g. brill company. petunia, birney safety car, (or birney, short) named after designer, charles o. birney of stone & webster co. design incorporated numerous operational , safety improvements on earlier streetcars permitted 1 man operation , thereby allowed street railway companies reduce expenses. birneys known bouncy riding qualities , never popular dallas riding public. nevertheless, 636 ran in dallas until 1947 when replaced more modern equipment. mata s ed , john landrum, frank schultz , dean smith designed , built 636 s current 8-foot-long truck using parts melbourne trucks purchased along car 369. mata later added shock absorbers smooth out birney s characteristic bouncy ride.
636 first of original cars equipped air-conditioning. single unit installed in 2007 test, 3 more units later installed on roof provide full cooling.
after collision cement truck in mid-2013, 636 out of service several months while 1 end of car reconstructed. @ same time received general overhaul included new wheels, new roof, , rewiring of motor control system.
754 - betty

754, 19-short-ton (17.2 t), 48-foot (14,630 mm), 54-seat streetcar built in 1926 american car company dallas railway , terminal co. peter witt center entrance car. dr&t later removed 754 s center doors when company rebuilt each of peter witts one-man operation. 754 on active dr&t roster until end of operations in january 1956. shortly after system abandonment, ben carpenter (son of president of dallas railway , terminal company 1927 1935) moved 754 family s hackberry creek ranch in irving, texas, , placed on concrete blocks. 754 spent retirement years there serving playhouse carpenter children , grandchildren. family built miniature town around car body. when of children , grandchildren had grown up, mr. carpenter decided time donate trolley mata.
754 partially restored @ eikon international. on june 21, 2009, 754 brought truck mata barn fitted trucks, ac traction motors, , other various operation components. car first @ mata equipped ac traction motors , computerized controls.
after lengthy debugging process of 754 s electronic control system, car began regular service in march 2014.

7169 brussels-built single-end westinghouse all-electric pcc bought mata in 2013. mata modified car operations, including new left-side doors. car entered regular service in mid 2015.
miss daisy (no number)
built fairmont company of fairmont, minnesota, around turn of 20th century. cars of type used railways on world track inspection. volunteer richard fowler donated miss daisy mata in complete, not operable condition. used welder trailer , rail grinder trailer, miss daisy enables mata personnel perform minor rail repairs.

183 , 189 built dallas railways in 1913 st. louis car company. typical stone & webster designed streetcars, sisters operating 186. in 1991, john landrum discovered 2 cars built home in lewisville, few miles north of dallas. since building demolished, on january 10, 1994, mata volunteers went lewisville , tore warehouse down expose , recover cars.

4613 , 4614 (ex-toronto pccs)
toronto once largest operator of pccs in world 745 cars. nineteen toronto pccs remained , these used on 1 route — 509 harbourfront. toronto pcc era ended on december 8, 1995, when last such cars ran on line. these pccs built in 1951 , extensively rebuilt ttc in 1990s, making them equivalent of brand-new streetcars. not wanting see these last pccs scrapped, john landrum helped tom twigge, toronto transit commission employee, form coalition of trolley museums save remaining cars being scrapped , find new homes them. mata bought these 2 cars.
3334 (ex-mbta 3334, dallas 612)
mata acquired double-ended pcc in late 2009. first operated in dallas #612, , sold massachusetts bay transportation authority (mbta), in boston. recently, in lake shore electric railway (museum) collection. after thorough condition of cars condition , structure, car deemed unfit restoration in late may 2017. years of service on streets of boston had left car structurally unsound , mata therefore made hard decision of scrapping body of car. of electrical components have been saved, trucks use in future restorations of other pcc cars.

a tandy center subway streetcar.
built single-ended pcc (presidents conference committee) streetcar st. louis car company in 1945 (washington) dc transit. operated dc transit car 1506 until abandonment of system in february 1962. bought fort worth s marvin , obediah leonard rail shuttle line vast parking lot downtown department store s basement station via 1,400-foot subway. rebuilt double-ended car , given more modernized appearance in fort worth — stainless steel siding , blue roof trim. modification did not conceal standard pcc design heritage. old 1506 renumbered m&o #2. no. 2 served tandy center subway car until line abandoned on august 30, 2002. despite modifications soften car s lines, retained distinctive shape reminiscent of winnebago — hence nickname.
winnie has had air-conditioning, mechanical , electrical problems kept out of service since 2006. car stored off-site. winnie once nicknamed barn queen time spent in car barn.
332 - morning star
332 1 of 4 box motors built in northern texas traction company interurban railway shops in 1912. when ntt ceased operations in 1934, farmer near granbury, texas (southwest of fort worth) bought 332 , used grain storage. john landrum, mata s chief operating officer, purchased car in 1986 , many years volunteers worked on restoration in mata car barn. however, restoration of morning star stopped , moved off-site in order make space new equipment needed urban circulator. car donated museum of american railroad restoration has continued.
