History Line E (Buenos Aires Underground)













line e opened on 20 june 1944, after construction began in 1938, original course ran constitución railway station general urquiza. after, decided abandon terminus @ constitución (which served connection line c) , instead reroute line towards plaza de mayo.


work began in 1957, , in 1966 san josé, independencia, belgrano , plaza de mayo (now bolívar) stations opened public president arturo umberto illia. many years, 2 stations closed during re-route remained unused until mid 1990s when 1 converted workshop service rolling stock of line.


the line further extended in 1973 josé maría moreno , again in 1985 plaza de los virreyes. premetro e2 tramway completed in 1987 , linked line e intention of connecting larger premetro network line, though never materialised following privatisation.


under private operation of subte metrovías, colour of line changed yellow purple during 1990s. purple had been used line c, while yellow used line h.


extension retiro

more recently, part of general effort extend buenos aires underground, decided extend line e bolívar retiro railway station (with intermediate stations @ catalinas , correo central) re-connect line c , mitre line, , line h when extension complete. of 2014, major structural works have been completed on 3 new stations , missing tracks , signalling systems.


in july 2015, city of buenos aires confirmed that, despite advanced state of works, extension not opened until 2017 citing delays came result of transfer of works national government city government in 2012. city complete additional work required in time, , extension expected increase ridership on line 25%.
