he signed minor league contract los angeles dodgers prior 2010 season, invitation spring training. after performances in spring training games, ortiz added dodgers major league roster start season. picked first win since 2007 relief performance on may 1. on may 15, 2010 ortiz started dodgers against san diego padres, first major league start since may 26, 2007. designated assignment on may 27, 2010, , on june 3, 2010, released. ortiz signed minor league contract new york mets on june 22, 2010. pitched mets triple affiliate, posting 3.94 era 6.0 k/9 , 1.5 bb/9 in buffalo later released. tampa bay rays signed ortiz , assigned him triple durham bulls. made 4 starts durham, , 0-1 6.35 era before being released.


on april 10, 2011, chicago cubs signed ortiz minor league deal. had contract purchased cubs on july 5, , appeared in 22 games cubs going 1–2 4.86 era. granted free agency on october 30, 2011.


ortiz signed minor league contract san francisco giants on february 15, 2012. received invitation spring training, released on march 26, 2012. ortiz spent 2012 season playing new york yankees triple-a affiliate scranton/wilkes-barre yankees.

on december 18, 2012, toronto blue jays announced ortiz had been signed minor league contract invitation major league spring training. on april 15, blue jays selected contract buffalo bisons. ortiz designated assignment on april 23 make room aaron laffey on roster. ortiz cleared waivers, , returned buffalo bisons on april 25. ortiz brought blue jays on may 9. ortiz got first win since 2011 in start on may 15, 2013, against san francisco giants. start ortiz s first start of 7 innings or more since 2007 season. ortiz designated assignment blue jays on may 28. cleared waivers , assigned buffalo bisons on may 31.


ortiz had contract purchased again blue jays on june 1 when brandon morrow placed on disabled list. ricky romero outrighted 40-man roster open space ortiz. made third start of season blue jays on june 2, against san diego padres. after pitching 2–1 count against chase headley, ortiz suffered apparent elbow injury , became visibly emotional, leaving field in tears. replaced in game brad lincoln , blue jays won game 7–4 in 11 innings. concerns raised severity of ortiz s injury, , whether or not end career. ortiz placed on 15-day disabled list right elbow strain on june 4, while team awaited results of mri. ortiz s mri revealed no tears in ulnar collateral ligament. ortiz transferred 60-day disabled list on june 25. season ended on disabled list 1–2 record, 6.04 earned run average, , 8 strikeouts on 25 ⁄3 innings.
