in february 1945, admiral scheer stood off samland several torpedo boats in support of german forces fighting soviet advances. on 9 february, ships began shelling soviet positions. between 18 , 24 february, german forces launched local counterattack; admiral scheer , torpedo boats provided artillery support, targeting soviet positions near peyse , gross-heydekrug. german attack temporarily restored land connection königsberg. ship s guns badly worn out march , in need of repair. on 8 march, admiral scheer departed eastern baltic have guns relined in kiel; carried 800 civilian refugees , 200 wounded soldiers. uncleared minefield prevented reaching kiel, , unloaded passengers in swinemünde. despite worn-out gun barrels, ship shelled soviet forces outside kolberg until used remaining ammunition.


the ship loaded refugees , left swinemünde; navigated minefields on way kiel, arriving on 18 march. stern turret had guns replaced @ deutsche werke shipyard april. during repair process, of ship s crew went ashore. on night of 9 april 1945, general raf bombing raid on 300 aircraft struck harbor in kiel. admiral scheer hit bombs , capsized. partially broken scrap after end of war, though part of hull left in place , buried rubble attack in construction of new quay. number of casualties loss unknown.
