her father, reverend honourable andrew godfrey stuart, son of earl castle stewart, rector of cottesmore , youngest of thirteen children. mother, second wife, mary penelope noel, relative of earl of gainsborough.

she converted roman catholicism @ age of 22 , in 1882, entered society of sacred heart @ roehampton. in august 1911, elected fifth superior general of society of sacred heart , mother janet stuart held office 3 years until death, aged 56, undisclosed causes..


she believed each parent had right ask teachers: have done child, child? show me trace of influence on mind, heart, character, , conduct . believed, not or educates; educates . sister (later mother) janet stuart insisted educators must bring children future, not present .
