at northern end of peckforton ridge stands grade-i-listed peckforton castle (sj533580), victorian replica of medieval castle designed anthony salvin in 1844–50 john tollemache. built around walled courtyard battlements , towers, castle stands opposite genuinely medieval beeston castle, , surrounded dry moat. george gilbert scott called height of masquerading . uninhabited since second world war, castle has been used film , television location, , venue civil weddings , live-action fantasy role playing. castle sold in late 1980s, , after time converted hotel.


also salvin castle s small private chapel , gatehouse on stone house lane. both, castle, in rock-faced stone. gatehouse consists of archway , circular turret two-storey lodge attached. both buildings listed @ grade ii*.
