extended range

in 2016, india became member of mtcr. india , russia planning jointly develop new generation of brahmos missiles 600 km-plus range , ability hit protected targets pinpoint accuracy. upgrade applied existing brahmos missiles.


india conducted maiden test firing of extended-range variant of brahmos missile on 11 march 2017. missile fired launch complex– iii of integrated test range (itr) in chandipur @ 11.30 am.

brahmos-ii hypersonic cruise missile under development , estimated have range of 290 km. brahmos, range of brahmos ii has been limited 290 km comply mtcr. speed of mach 7, have double speed of current brahmos missile, , fastest hypersonic missile in world. development take 7–8 years complete

brahmos-ng (next generation) mini version based on existing brahmos, have same 290 km range , mach 3.5 speed weigh around 1.5 tons, 5 meters in length , 50 cm in diameter, making brahmos-ng 50 percent lighter , 3 meters shorter predecessor. system expected inducted in year 2017. brahmos-ng have lesser rcs (radar cross section) compared predecessor, making harder air defense systems locate , engage target. brahmos-ng have land, air, ship-borne , submarine tube-launched variants. first test flight expected take place in 2017–18. brahmos-ng called brahmos-m.


the missile arm sukhoi su-30mki, mikoyan mig-29k, hal tejas , future inductions such dassault rafale, sukhoi su-57, hal fgfa , possibly mikoyan mig-35. submarine launched variant capable of being fired new p75i class of submarines. model of new variant showcased on 20 february 2013, @ 15th anniversary celebrations of brahmos corporations. sukhoi su-30mki carry 3 missiles while other combat aircraft carry 1 each.
