in september 2003, ecg granted approval canadian radio-television , telecommunications commission (crtc) launch specialty channel called filipino tv, described ethnic category 21 specialty television service... targeting filipino-speaking community.
the channel launched in june 23, 2004, along 3 other channels ecg, on rogers cable. launched under name ecg filipino , featured programming now-defunct pinoy central tv. in late 2005, channel renamed mabuhay channel canada via agreement mabuhay channel, new filipino channel had launched in united states. mabuhay channel partnership of 5 different filipino broadcasters: abc channel 5, nbn channel 4, ibc channel 13, cci asia group (isla & juice), , viva entertainment. created exclusively filipinos living abroad philippine multimedia systems inc. (pmsi), dth satellite broadcaster in philippines.
in august 2008, mabuhay channel dropped dish network, provider carried channel in us. result of this, channel ceased broadcasting , on august 18, 2008. ethnic channels group re-branded channel yet again time calling ftv- filipino tv.
coinciding launch of filipino tv, ethnic channels announced partnership filipino-canadian production company minerva studio, whereby minerva produce several original productions ftv.

on november 4, 2014, crtc approved ethnic channel group s request convert filipino tv licensed category b specialty service exempted category b third language service.
in december 2016, channel underwent rebranding, introducing new logo , additional programming including locally produced programming provinces.
