tropical storm jose first identified tropical wave moved off western coast of africa on august 8, 2005. on august 13, system spawned tropical depression ten on central atlantic; wave continued westward, entering caribbean on august 17. slight development took place system moved on yucatán peninsula; however, time entered bay of campeche on august 21, little convection associated system. following morning, convection exploded under highly favorable divergence upper-level anticyclonic flow. according readings quikscat satellite, well-defined low pressure center developed 1200 utc, prompting national hurricane center classify system tropical depression eleven. @ time, depression situated 110 mi (175 km) east of veracruz, mexico.


situated on warm waters , within area of low wind shear, depression able organize; however, due proximity land, nhc noted, system not have long...to take advantage of these favorable conditions. located south of mid-level ridge, depression tracked north of due west , kept motion through remainder of existence. depression rapidly intensified moved west, becoming tropical storm jose 6 hours later. global model guidance failed resolve storm s track well, models indicating stall offshore. jose continued strengthen moved towards coast , made landfall north of veracruz city on august 23 winds reaching peak of 60 mph (95 km/h). jose made landfall eye beginning form, although storm still short of hurricane intensity. tropical storm jose weakened after landfall , dissipated afternoon in mountains of central mexico 24 hours after forming.
