born in irvine, north ayrshire, scotland, simon neil formed biffy clyro in 1995 @ 15 years old recruiting kilmarnock-born james johnston , known barry on bass , drums respectively, calling skrewfish. barry replaced ben johnston, james s twin brother, , biffy clyro formed. in 1997, trio moved glasgow, neil studied electronics music @ university of glasgow. studied film , tv year before leaving pursue music full-time. then, simon s musical tastes had expanded; in 2000, band spotted @ unsigned bands stage @ t in park beggars banquet representative. after, band signed independent beggar s banquet.
