biography
early life , education

augustin hadelich born in cecina, italy, german parents. 2 older brothers playing cello , piano when augustin (age 5) began studies on violin father, agriculturalist , amateur cellist. in musical development, hadelich progressed in studies through irregular lessons , masterclasses violinists traveling near hadelich farm in rural tuscany, including uto ughi, christoph poppen, igor ozim, , norbert brainin. hadelich enjoyed blossoming career wunderkind violinist, pianist, , composer in germany contemporary of violinist julia fischer.

in 1999, augustin hadelich suffered severe burns @ fire on family s farm in italy , airlifted treated in germany. accident left hadelich unable play on year. perhaps because of experience — because had moment wasn’t sure if ever play violin again — appreciate happening in life more. try enjoy every moment. made me realize how important music me, hadelich has commented. after recovery, hadelich graduated summa cum laude instituto mascagni in livorno, italy, , auditioned admission juilliard school. 2004-2007, hadelich studied @ juilliard joel smirnoff, graduating graduate diploma (2005) , artist diploma (2007).

career

shortly after winning first prize @ international violin competition of indianapolis in 2006, augustin hadelich proved himself ready world stage through several short-notice substitutions major orchestras. in 2008 filled in julian rachlin @ hollywood bowl, performing los angeles philharmonic. in 2010, hadelich made new york philharmonic debut @ bravo! vail festival substituting violinist nikolaj znaider. has since appeared soloist every major orchestra in north america, many of them multiple times, including boston symphony orchestra, chicago symphony orchestra, cleveland orchestra, los angeles philharmonic, new york philharmonic, philadelphia orchestra, st. louis symphony orchestra , san francisco symphony. among recent , upcoming worldwide appearances bbc philharmonic, danish national symphony, finnish radio orchestra, hamburg philharmonic, hong kong philharmonic, london philharmonic, mozarteum orchestra salzburg, munich philharmonic, netherlands philharmonic, norwegian radio orchestra, nhk symphony tokyo, radio orchestras of cologne, frankfurt, , stuttgart.

hadelich known perform wide range of repertoire. although scheduled perform standard violin concerto repertoire (beethoven, brahms, sibelius, tchaikovsky, etc), champion of contemporary works, such violin concertos thomas adès, henri dutilleux , györgy ligeti, , recital works brett dean, david lang, györgy kurtag, toru takemitsu , bernd alois zimmermann.

in february 2016, augustin hadelich won first grammy award best classical instrumental solo category @ 58th grammy awards in los angeles performance of henri dutilleux’s violin concerto, ‘l’arbre des songes’ seattle symphony , music director ludovic morlot on seattle symphony media label.

in october 2015, hadelich became inaugural winner of warner music prize, includes grant of $100,000 , recording opportunity warner classics.

hadelich won gold medal @ 2006 international violin competition of indianapolis, received several additional accolades, including best performance of romantic concerto, classical concerto, beethoven sonata, violin sonata other beethoven, bach work, commissioned work, encore piece , paganini caprice.
