Three-second violation Key (basketball)
the lane restricted area in players can stay limited amount of time. on levels, team on offensive (in possession of ball) prohibited stay inside lane more 3 seconds; after 3 seconds player called three-second violation result in turnover.
in fiba-sanctioned tournaments, defending team players allowed stay on key unlimited amount of time. in american professional basketball, defending team players prohibited staying in key more 3 seconds, unless player directly guarding offensive player. if player surpasses time, defending team charged defensive three-second violation, result in technical foul team ball shoots 1 free throw plus ball possession , reset of shot clock. in cases, count resets if shot hits rim or if player steps out of lane.
