drama/dance facility


the thomas aveling school formed in 1990 after 3 local schools closed. former warren wood boys’ school site re-developed new facilities added refurbished classroom , administration block , school hall. during 1990s, school became grant-maintained school, allowing board of governors latitude expand facilities, including addition of sports hall in 1997. in 2001, school received positive ofsted report.


in 1997, lapse of grant-maintained system within england, school became foundation , taken under authority of newly formed medway lea. school went on gain technology college status , training school status. school academy , independent of lea control.


due thomas aveling school being relatively recent development (1990), history not extensive. however, new facilities school have been built continually. these include major development of learning resource centre & community library (2002), music recording studio (2003), fitness & media suites (2004), post-16 science lab.(2005) design & technology suite (2006), , brand new drama facility (2008). there plans major new sports facilities.


the school named after thomas aveling, partner in world s largest manufacturer of steam rollers in 19th century, named aveling , porter, located in rochester. gives reason existence of steam roller on badge of school uniform. 2 trees cross 1 represent merging of warren wood boys , warren wood girls in order create thomas aveling school.
