biography
dantec born in grenoble, france, son of journalist , seamstress. grew in ivry-sur-seine near paris. while still in high school met jean-bernard pouy, future author of noir novels such le poulpe, inspired dantec take interest in noir fiction. in late 1970s, after graduating college, dantec put band called État d urgence ( state of emergency ) 1 of first french punk acts. in 1977 band changed name artefact , kept punk ideology. artefact concept-band, influenced suicide, devo, kraftwerk, talking heads , public image limited. dantec invented concept of hard-muzak define sound of band, mix of industrial music , disco making band french equivalent of no-wave bands new york, , english ones post-punk. pursued career in artefact (until band s breakup in 1981) while working copywriter in advertising industry.
cyberpunk
dantec began writing in 1990s. first novel, la sirène rouge ( red siren ), published in 1993 part of série noire collection. novel won 813 award best crime novel. second novel, les racines du mal ( roots of evil ), appeared in 1995 , borders on cyberpunk fiction. novel successful commercially , awarded prix de l imaginaire. classically cyberpunk novella là où tombent les anges ( angels fall ), appeared same year, in edition of le monde. worked richard pinhas , norman spinrad group heldon, under project schizotrope 3 albums, including north american tour in 1999.
dantec , family relocated québec in 1998, wrote third novel babylon babies, further explores themes of decadence , apocalypse developed in là où tombent les anges. babylon babies influenced partly dantec s interests in twentieth century french philosopher gilles deleuze, , shamanism.
