by 1950s capitol operated fleet of piston engine transport planes including dc-3s , lockheed lodestars. capitol airways began transport priority freight u.s. air force in 1954. 1956, capitol operating fleet of more twenty curtiss c-46 transport planes, , had become primary civilian carrier military s logistic air support (logair) program. capitol entered international charter flight market, operating fleet of lockheed constellations. late 1950s, capitol moved of flight operations wilmington, delaware @ new castle airport.

in 1967 capitol added international name , operating 6 straight dc-8 jets , 3 stretched super dc-8 versions along fleet of piston engine propeller aircraft. in 1971 capitol international airways moved smyrna, tennessee, @ sewart air force base. capitol remained strong military contract air carrier.
