biography

uglum born november 22, 1961 eric alfred benjamin lussky in fort campbell, kentucky, united states, , raised in huntington beach, california.


1982–1990

uglum began music career in huntington beach, california received first guitar—a guild d25m—at age 13. in 1982 won title of west coast flatpicking guitar champion.


in 1986 uglum (guitar/lead vocal), ron block (guitar/vocals), , mike bub (bass) formed band weary hearts. band later joined butch baldassari (mandolin) , chris jones (guitar). in 1987 weary hearts released album of traditional gospel songs entitled faith answer .


in 1988, after touring weary hearts 2 years, uglum formed band, new wine. lineup consisted of eric uglum (guitar/vocals), ron block (guitar/banjo/vocals), sandra block (bass/vocals) , rob ickes (dobro).


1991–1999

after ron block left weary hearts pursue career alison krauss , union station, uglum teamed janet beazley (banjo), marshall andrews (bass), , bud bierhaus (guitar) form copperline. released album entitled long, long way , performed @ international bluegrass music association conference in 1996.


in 1997, uglum (guitar/mandolin/vocals) joined traditional southern california bluegrass band, lost highway. band featured ken orrick (guitar/vocals), dick brown (banjo), marshall andrews (bass) , paul shelasky (fiddle). band toured extensively around u.s., united kingdom, canada, europe , middle east. in 2000 lost highway released lifetime of sorrow album featuring ralph stanley on guest tenor vocal.


2000–present

uglum released first solo album, shenandoah wind , in january 2004. album features guests such alison krauss (singing harmony), ron block, rob ickes , stuart duncan.



2002 eric uglum has recorded bluegrass band called hwy 52 wayne dickerson, chris stuart, elizabeth burkett , richard burkett.

in 2006, uglum joined 3 bands in tour brought traditional american bluegrass music sultanate of oman. bands, southern california, lost highway, chris stuart & backcountry, , eric uglum & sons. while in oman, bands performed @ muscat festival, cultural event celebrating diversity in omani populace. tour included concerts , workshops schools, , performances american embassy staff , private interests.


in 2007 uglum (guitar) joined chris stuart (guitar/ lead vocals), janet beazley (banjo) , stepsons austin ward (upright bass) , christian ward (fiddle) in band, chris stuart & backcountry. band has released 3 albums date entitled mojave river , crooked man , saints , strangers .


also in 2007, uglum began performing in trio stepsons austin ward (bass) , christian ward (fiddle). trio toured nationally , released album produced janet beazley entitled, old road jerusalem .
